PSI-NC uses a variety of equipment to document phenomena, either natural or paranormal. This documentation is used in conjunction with eyewitness accounts and other investigative techniques. No single thing can establish a genuine haunting—all data must all be gathered and analyzed.

The most important technique in an investigation is COMMON SENSE. We go into every investigation with no preconceived notions. IT IS WHAT IT IS.

We do not take away or add to our evidence. As new technology continues to be developed it is within reason that someone will define and positively establish the existence of ghosts.   Our equipment span from the oldest devices known to man, right up to the most modern high-tech electronics available.  This just some of what we use in our investigations.

First-Aid Kit

First Aid Kit. You never know when someone can be injured, so it's always good to include a first aid kit with your equipment  PSI-NC is fortunate to have a registered nurse on our team.

EQUIPMENT

Compass
Compass. Some investigators report successful results. Carrying the compass flat in their hand and extended away from their body, they report needle spins when an energy field is encountered.
Wahl Thermal Imager
Wahl Thermal Imager.
To detect, display and record objects based on their heat output as opposed to reflecting light in a normal photograph. Using the color imaging template, cool to cold shows in progressively darker colors and warm areas in progressively lighter colors. The “WAHL HEAT SPY” will display temperature variations as small as one degree. Just saying “I felt a cold area” is not evidence. Temperature difference needs to be measured and documented.

Electromagnetic Field meters
Electromagnetic Field Meter [EMF]. Used to read and document disruptions in the AC electromagnetic field in an area. EMF meters are also used to rule out artificial fields (overhead power lines, unshielded power wires and household appliances). Strong electromagnetic fields from unshielded electrical sources can cause chronic fatigue, nausea, forgetfulness and hallucinations.
TriField Natural EM Meter
TriField Natural EM Meter.
This detects extremely weak static (DC or natural) electric and magnetic fields. A radio and microwave detector is included.  This meter was designed to ignore the AC fields of power lines and appliances, etc. It can detect geomagnetic storms caused by solar activity as well as electrical activity of ordinary thunderstorm.  Ball lighting is associated with magnetization of metal or moisture on the ground leading to the report of unusual lights in the sky.
Anemometer-Thermometer-Hygrometer
Anemometer Thermometer
Hygrometer.
We use the “Skywatch Atomos” it combines all of these into one piece of equipment.  It will monitor the wind speed, ambient temperature and moisture in a room to help us rule out natural interference in our photographs.  Moving air could disturb dust and would reflect light when photographed.  High moisture and your breath in a cold room can do the same.
Ion Particle Counter
Ion Particle Counter. This device measures the positive and negative Ion’s in the air of a location.  We take a base reading and if we have a photographed anomaly, then a second reading is taken, if the reading increases this may help prove ghostly energy have some density.  It is also thought when an energy field is noted that positive Ion’s increase and the negative Ion’s decrease in the field.
Tape Recorders
Tape Recorders. Digital or standard recorders are an important piece of equipment which is used to document witness interviews to keep audio notes related to occurrences. There are cases where strange voices and sounds that can not be explained are recorded.
Infrared Thermometers
Infrared Non-Contact Thermometers. Used to take instant temperature readings at different areas of a location amd to detect sudden changes in temperature.  It is believed that ghosts use the surrounding energy and thereby cause a cold spot. Some have thermocouples that can indicate instant ambient temperature in the surrounding area.
Digital Camera
Digital Camera. Try to use cameras that will ensure high quality photographs—some even have with “Nightshot” capability.  Digital cameras give us the ability to view the picture within seconds and to further investigate any anomalies while still on-site.
Infrared Motion Detectors
Infrared Motion Detectors. We use these to monitor an area being investigated. This is normally used with camera backup to provide evidence without the possibility of human interference. These may pick up “spirit energy” or other unexplained occurrences as well.
Flashlight
Infrared Flashlight.
We use flashlights with a red lens in order not to impede night vision.
Hand-held Two-way Radios
Hand-held Two-way
Radios.
Investigators should always use these to maintain contact.
